Bruno Tarrière, re-recording mixer, in conversation with Jan Willem van den Brink

Welcome to another international edition of Klankmakers.

In January 2026, we had the privilege of attending a special event organized by the DFSA, featuring acclaimed French re-recording mixer Bruno Tarrière. Bruno traveled from Paris to Amsterdam to share his insights into the meticulous art of re-recording mixing.

The highlight of the evening was a screening of the 1994 cinematic classic, Léon: The Professional, directed by Luc Besson. Attendees experienced the film’s newly released 4K restoration—a particularly significant viewing, as Bruno himself served as a re-recording mixer on the original production. We were hosted for this event at the recently opened Vue Cinema in the Amsterdam Houthavens.

Following the screening, Dutch re-recording mixer Jan Willem van den Brink sat down with Bruno to discuss his career and his approach to the craft.

Note: The following recording has been edited for length and clarity. Some film clips have been removed or shortened due to licensing requirements.

Our sincere thanks to the DFSA and its sponsors, Gaumont, and Vue Houthavens for their support.

Most importantly, we thank Jan Willem van den Brink and Bruno Tarrière for sharing their expertise and making this conversation possible.
